Maaf dan kemaafan…
Salam.
Writing a new post tonight seems the best option to save me from the goodbye-weekend syndrome even though it is only for a while. Well, it’s not chronic or fatal ain’t it?
Ever heard the song Apologize by One Republic? Man, that’s one of my favorite songs! I love both the music and the lyrics. I memorized the lyrics after I listened to the song like 5-6 times in just one day! Oh how I wish I could use that talent in my study too.
It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
So that was the chorus. Last time when I was crazy listening to this song, I didn’t really care about the meaning of the lyrics. Lately, I keep on thinking is there a deadline to say sorry? So far, I never fail to accept any apology since I realize that human can never run from mistakes( ok ok, maybe not all but I will sooner or later insya Allah) . And I really hope that I haven’t missed to say sorry whenever I make mistakes (ok for those who feel that I’m guilty and never receive any apology from me, now is the right time to forgive me! Sorry OK!=p). Well, back to the question. Is there really a deadline for an apology? Naaah. I don’t think so. “Kemaafan tidak mengenal masa” .
You know what, not all the times we can apologize just after we made a mistake. Sometimes we need to leave things to cool down first, even if it takes a year or two or even 50 years. But no matter how long does it takes, believe me it’s never late. As long as the person is still alive, it’s never too late to apologize (sorry to the writer of the song…=p). Or if the person is no longer in this world, Allah is always there to accept our apology. As long as it comes from the bottom of your heart, no one will reject an apology without a reason.
Now, let’s put yourselves in the shoes of the victims. What I mean is the person who are going to accept the apology. Ever been one? If yes, then you should know how hard it was to say ‘I forgive you’ because they are not just ordinary words, those words imply an acceptance to whomever once did wrong to you back in your life. For these type of people, let me tell you something. Don’t ever accept an apology from the same person easily. What I mean is if the same person keep doing the same mistakes and apologize to you again and again, don’t just simply forgive them.
Ok, I think there must be someone out there who disagree with my statement. It’s up to you but here’s the rationale why I sometimes did this. First, it is due to the fact that the person keeps repeating the same mistakes which I think the person’s sincerity in apologizing can be questioned. Secondly, to show that forgiving is not a joke. Third, as an ordinary people, feelings is always affects my behavior. So behave yourself please!
Senang cerita, memang senang untuk meminta maaf, tapi ingat! bukan senang untuk memaafkan. Seringkali kita dengar kata-kata seperti “Aku dah minta maaf kira baik la tu”, dan inilah orang-orang sering mengulangi kesilapan mereka dan meminta maaf tanpa keinsafan! (Well, I’m not implying anyone but me. Hope to be a better person insya Allah).
I think you are the only person who know yourself better. Why not we start apologizing and forgiving people in this holy month Syawal (still 10+ days left). May Allah bless us, our family and all Muslims insya Allah. Till then, adios!

‘Forgive and forget’ that’s what they say,
It’s good advice, but it’s not very practical.
When someone hurts us,
We want to hurt them back.
When someone wrongs us,
We want to be right.
Without forgiveness old scores are never settled,
Old wounds never heal.
And the most we can hope for,
Is that one day…
We’ll be lucky enough to forget.
-Meredith Grey
But love always heals. GIVE forgiveness along with love. No matter how many times it would be, at least for me.
